Potential Cost Savings for Our Taxpayers
Posted on February 4th, 2010 No commentsSupervisor Jon Wagner was re-elected President of the Dutchess County Supervisor’s and Mayors Association (DCSMA) during that organizations January meeting. One of the first initiatives begun by Wagner could result in a financial benefit to LaGrange taxpayers.
Pattern for Progress (Pattern) will partner with the DCSMA to conduct an organized study of all Dutchess County Communities to determine where costs can be cut through shared services or consolidation.
Jonathan Drapkin, and Pattern for Progress has the experience needed to successfully carry out such a study. Mr. Drapkin was a member of the Governor’s Commission on Government Efficiency under two Governors and members of his staff have direct experience through the NYS Department of State developing shared service grants.
Pattern recently completed a similar study in Ulster County which successfully identified areas where tax dollars will be saved.
The DCSMA has taken the steps needed to apply for a grant to fund the program, and it is hoped that 100% of Dutchess communities will participate.
The goal is to have useful information prior to the 2011 budget cycle. The Dutchess county Legislature and the County Executive’s office are participating, and all involved are committed to finding solutions in advance of our respective budget deadlines.
